Building a Website in 2023. A Definitive Guide for Beginners

Building a website in 2023 isn’t as difficult as it seems. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be an expert coder to build a beautiful website. There are many resources available that allow the average person to put together a website. Let this guide be a roadmap as to how you should approach building your first website. I’ll be sure to link to relevant information when necessary.

#1 Purchasing a Domain

The first step into building a website is purchasing a domain. I recommend buying your domain through NameCheap because they provide the cheapest domains on the market.

#2 Purchasing Web Hosting.

Now that you have a domain, you need a server to host your website’s photos, content, and information. There are many different ways you could go about doing this. If you really wanted to you could host the website straight from your own home, although I wouldn’t recommend this for beginners because you’d have to purchase and manage your own server.

Instead I recommend purchasing hosting from a company that specializes in maintaining servers built to host websites. I have an extensive guide on the best web hosting providers. I highly recommend you check it out!

#3 Choosing a Content Management System

A content management system or CMS is what actually allows you to build your website and manage your web content. Some of the most popular CMS’ include: WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. The best part about these is that they’re all FREE.

I highly recommend WordPress. It’s my favorite CMS which is why I’ve chosen to build this website with it. In fact, WordPress is the most popular CMS in the world with over 75+ million websites running it. So if you’re building a website in 2020, I recommend building it with WordPress.
